Integrated Climate System Sciences in Hamburg





Why study at the School of Integrated Climate System Sciences (SICSS)?

The KlimaCampus is an excellent location for Climate System Sciences. It represents the cooperation between the University of Hamburg, the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, the Institute for Coastal Research of the Research Center Geesthacht and the German Climate Computing Center to educate a new generation of climate scientists. The graduate school SICSS integrates the climate system sciences meteorology, oceanography, and biogeochemistry in a single program supplemented by expertise in social sciences and economics. “Solving the problem of climate change requires a comprehensive approach.” (Prof. Dr. Eva-Maria Pfeiffer, Dean of SICSS) 


Specific objectives

  1. to foster education of excellent graduate students in Climate System Sciences
  2. to advance multidisciplinary and research-driven education of graduate students with specific MSc and PhD programs
  3. to connect scientists from the field of earth system sciences
  4. to strengthen interdisciplinary research at the “KlimaCampus Hamburg”
  5. to provide excellent conditions for a professional career in research or in other fields related to climate science 
  6. to strengthen young scientists in their communication with policy makers and the public regarding climate issues

 

Study and research at SICSS

Postgraduate studies at the School of Integrated Climate System Science (SICSS) fall into two categories :

The PhD-Program is an optional follow-up to the MSc. Both programs are carried out in English.
